actuators TYPE: Hipps

WHAT IS HIPPSystem?

In essence, it is a pressure break, which permits downstream pipe/pipeline/plant to be down-rated

  • Considerable cost savings in fabrication of thinner wall downstream lines/equipments as well as a weight reduction,
  • which may be beneficial for both construction costs and installation
  • Reduce flare capacity requirements with benefits on environment and risk profile of the plant; high pressure and large flow
  • rates can be handled safely with reduced costs
  • Provide an extremely reliable ‘Last protection layer’ against catastrophic events

In general, the HIPPSystem (including valves, actuators, logic solver and instrumentation) shall be designed and manufactured to guarantee:

  • Quick and safe operation on demand (Reliability)
  • The SIL Level requirement (PFD)
  • Suitability for continuous operation (Availability)
  • Compliance with process requirements (i.e.: function on Fail Safe mode, low pressure drop, low turbulence…)
  • Tightness level required to achieve adequate isolation
  • Easy to operate and Maintain (Availability)
  • Piggability (for valves installed on Pipelines)

PetrolValves is certified System Integrator, qualified to supply integrated HIPPSystem.

ORGANIZATION

Since 2000, PV has supported its Technical Dept. with a new office (System Integrator), see LR QA ISO 9001:2008 certification, to better ensure and guarantee the reliability and functional safety of equipment and / or components of its production during life cycle.
The basis of this activity is the collection of all data reports of failure, from the field, starting from 1999, relating to its products, to build a working database, regularly updated every six months.

ANALYSIS AND CERTIFICATION

The database, validated by TUV and LLR ’s, enables the development of SAR, SIL, FMECA analysis of the various types of HIPPS and OPPS safety systems, tailoring the analysis to the type and size of the valve, the control electronics, to plant and processed fluids.
The reliability reports issued have been reviewed and approved by independent third parties (e.g. SINTEF, LLR ’s, TUV) and / or its customers (e.g. Statoil, Nord Stream), for application in SIL 3 and SIL 4.
Also falling HIPPS and OPPS safety systems within Category I V of the Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC (Art. 1 par. 2.1.3), P V has obtained legal certificates of their HIPPS / OPPS systems by Lloyd’s Register (Notify Body), according to Module B (Design Appraisal) and the Module F (Product Verification) of the PED directive.
